Academic Studio is an interface for the Claude Code local version, the same Claude Code Local that is in Claude Desktop. Go to academic-studio.com and download the installer. Double-click the installer on Windows and drag it into Applications on a Mac. Accept the license agreement and all the defaults. Windows will warn you that it may not be safe to install. Click on More Info and then Run Anyway. A Mac will ask if you are sure you want to open an app downloaded from the internet. Choose Open.

When it is installed and open, select Run Setup, either from the Welcome tab or from Help, Run Setup on the menu. Choose a profile, then check or uncheck whatever you want — the profile sets a starting point, not a fixed list. Apply installs the extensions, and Install Selected Programs installs the supporting software.

Academic Studio works the way Claude Desktop does: Claude operates inside a folder. Open the folder you want to work in, from the Welcome tab or File, Open Folder. After a few second delay, Claude Code opens in a panel on the right.
